Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Statistical Functional Genomics
The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford
Grade 7: £29,541 - £36,298 with a discretionary range to £39,649 p.a.
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Statistical Functional Genomics at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics in the University of Oxford.

You will play a key role in a substantial research programme led by Dr Julian Knight aiming to use functional genomic approaches to define genetic variants responsible for observed genetic associations with susceptibility to autoimmune disease, in particular inflammatory arthritis. You will have significant skills in bioinformatics and statistical genetics to enable the analysis of large complex datasets arising from high-density genotyping, DNA sequencing and functional genomic profiling. This will include data arising from use of high throughput sequencing for transcript quantification (RNA-seq) and chromatin profiling (ChIP-seq), allele-specific and expression quantitative trait mapping, analysis of epigenetic modifications, noncoding RNAs, and alternative splicing and DNA methylation.

You will have a PhD in Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or a related discipline and have research experience in statistical genetics and/or bioinformatics. Proficiency in the use of statistical programming language R/BioConductor and scripting languages Python/Perl is essential. You will need strong organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently to deliver results as well as the ability to work well within a team.

The position is available fixed-term for up to 3 years in the first instance and will be funded by the Wellcome Trust.
