Dear ZOOARCHers
This tooth (http://zooarchaeology.ning.com/forum/topics/tooth-preservation-in-sandstone) was found in a sandstone Paleolithic level at Brive (France). It is a print of an upper molar from a bovid. The tooth is almost completely destroyed, but you can see some fragment of enamel. There is no faunal remain in this layer but few small burnt bones. Does anyone have seen such a tooth preservation ? What kind of taphonomic process may be involved ? Do you have some references ?
Thank you very much
