Hi all,

A mystery bone for your Friday: a colleague who works on the Brown Abydos project described what I thought sounded like a reptile cranial fragment, so I told him to send a few pictures, which I have posted on zoobook: http://zooarchaeology.ning.com/photo/albums/abydos

He said it is from a sand deposit sealed by a domestic occupation surface, dated to 2nd to early 1st century BCE. Also there seems to be a bit of faience sticking to it and they think it may have once been part of a composite object.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Best,

Suzanne
