Hi Lyn
if that's the case I think you may need to have your installation upgraded. There have been bugs with importing in the past but they were fixed and I was certainly able to import the zip into the current 1.9
which is well worth upgrading to anyway.

Redownloaded and got sma e as you i.e.
When I download from Jorum I got a file named something like item_export_2013_Feb_18_7_cb33016c2cbd18b390836084005580_anon.zip
I extracted that and got an imsmanifest.xml file + STAFF_EDI_Module_1_Intro.zip
However when I try and import I still get the message “You can only import Zip files!”

Just select all those files and folders and re-zip then import that.
e.g. the stucture should be what your screenshot shows with the .rlt file in the root of the zip not a parent folder and then those files and folders.
When I download from Jorum I got a file named something like item_export_2013_Feb_18_7_cb33016c2cbd18b390836084005580_anon.zip
I extracted that and got an imsmanifest.xml file + STAFF_EDI_Module_1_Intro.zip
The latter should import into Xerte Online Toolkits.

Yes it was a download from Jorum. I’ve extracted the files and get this
So no zip file now to import into Xerte! When I try to import the original zip file from Jorum, the message is
Any other suggestions?

Were you trying to import the zip generated from Jorum?
You need to extract that and then in Xerte import the zip named STAFF_EDI_Module_1_Intro.zip
If you can't import because of php size restrictions etc then create a copy of that zip, remove some or all of the videos from the media folder to reduce the size of the zip and import that. Then upload the individual
videos via properties > media & quota. The reference to the files will still exist in the imported xml so uploading via media and quota will resolve any broken links.
Also it's a common oversight that during development authors upload media and then change it later by uploading a revised version with a different name etc and this as well as deleting pages which contained media
often means that there can be quite a lot of no longer used media in the projects media folder unnecessarily bloating the export size. Unused media should ideally be removed via Properties > Media & Quota before the project is exported. (see screenshot attached)

Has anyone successfully imported into xerte? I asked our IT team to allow a big upload but no joy: doesn't recognise a zip file. I'd be grateful if anyone is
successful if you could let me know.
Thanks

Hi Julia,
I think there are only two pragmatic ways to go about it – from either end.
1.
If the resource has a tag of interest to JA-ISC then it could be included within the listings as I have done here;
https://sites.google.com/a/jiscadvance.ac.uk/rscai/other-projects/xerte - I have included a link to surface the Xerte tagged
items.
2.
If those who use delicious/diigo/pintrest/ or
everythingelsesocial come across something of specific interest for our network then consider ISCPEERS as a tag, and a link in the googlesite to harvest them
I think 1 is easier to do than 2
Anything else probably has too many rules/steps/process to remember and therefore become habit. It is easier to point at ‘collations’ from the googlesite.

Hi,
Added a couple more links into here to point to social bookmarks for Xerte examples. Don’t we need a tagging strategy as well as our own reference sections? If not, are we not failing to exploit the benefits
of social bookmarking/networking?
Terry.

Hi Martin can I suggest that this kind of valuable information be added to the ISC and A&I peer network website under the Xerte heading – with a description? Do we all have access to this website
yet?
This reminds me that we need a discussion area linked to this site.

Central College have produced their EDI induction in Xerte and made it available on Jorum.
238mb zip file so you might have to get your IT team to increase file size for uploads??
