Have any of you received a request like the one below?

It feels a bit social-engineering-y to us.

Your query/comment

Dear Sir/Madame,

I am writing to you today for a request for some information regarding the hosting of your University’s website. Just to provide some background, my name is Nicola Millard and I am currently a final year student at Bournemouth University studying BSc (Hons) Forensic Computing and Security conducting my final year project.

This project involves creating an Apache Security Configuration Guide to enable University website administrators to configure their Apache setups to provide the best possible security for their system. This will be based on the most commonly used Apache and Operating System versions used by University websites.

For the research for this project I require some information regarding the Apache setup currently used to host your University’s website, all information provided will be dealt with the strictest confidentially and will not reveal the identity of your university or the Apache setup.

If you would be happy to provide this information please follow the link below to an online questionnaire.
