NHS scandal.
Also this week. The Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry reported. The official websitwe has public hearings and the final report on the website.  There are also links to an earlier enquiry.

 Cure the NHS group is made up of patients and relatives of those involved. Their website  has discussion events news and responses. Another related campaign group is dignity in care.
Use Social care online to search for free links to abstracts and reports on all aspects of social care.  the British Library social welfare portal also has free abstracts.  Register for access to some full text reports.

Europhoto.
The EuroPhoto project aims at digitising historical pictures from the archives of 10 leading European News Agencies and make them available to Europeana. Pictures will be free of charge for educational or private use. Partners include  Agenzia Ansa, Italy;  Agence Belga - Agence telegraphique Belge de presse sa Belgium, Berlingske media a/s Denmark, Dpa Deutsche presse agentur gesellschaft mit beschrankter haftung Germany; Magyar tavirati iroda rt Hungary, Expert system s.p.a. Italy, Polska agencja prasowa sa Poland, Lusa - Agencia de noticias de Portugal sa Portugal; Agencia efe s.a. Australasia through a lens
National Archives release via website thousands of historic photographs
Drawings of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and other Pacific Islands. They are available via Flickr so users can comment. They include colonial administration official photographs as well as historic images of indigenous people which would be of value to those studying colonial attitude and race.

Postgraduates earn more than other graduates.

Postgraduate Premium: Revisiting Trends in Social Mobility and Educational Inequalities in Britain and America.  They are concerned that to be a graduate is now not enough and lower income individuals are priced out of the postgraduate market.

Humanitarian Outcomes is a team of specialist consultants. It produces the aid worker security database which provides statistics on violence against aid workers.  Reports are  from 1997 onwards.
Topics covered include kidnapping, injury and murder of aid workers. 
Categories covered are  NGOs, the International Movement of the Red Cross/Red Crescent, donor agencies and the UN agencies belonging to the Inter-Agency Standing Committee on Humanitarian Affairs (FAO, OCHA, UNDP, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP and WHO) plus IOM and UNRWA. The aid worker definition does not include UN peacekeeping personnel, human rights workers, election monitors

BL Georeferencer
Major project from the British lLbrary to geopreference old maps.Georeferencing tools allow historic maps to be overlaid on modern mapping, enhancing the ability to view and compare the past with the present. The British library is using crowd sourced materials by allowing members of the public to assist. Details of the project and a video and examples are on the project website
Georeferenced maps are being loaded on old maps online.
The Edina AddressingHistory project is also working with online to enhance historic maps.
to create an online tool to combine data from digitised historical Scottish Post Office Directories with contemporaneous historical maps.
