Hello All I am currently enhancing our records on flood defences and have come across the term 'soss'. I had thought it may refer to a sluice; however an old book I have found of the internet records a soss and sluice being installed. http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=apIJAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA428&lpg=PA428&dq=stanground+drainage+of+the+fens&source=bl&ots=RDGrvosZEb&sig=pqD8IPkWCBmpkgsUQ8fr3tfjaWI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=rZkbUe-fIvOW0QXXyICoDg&ved=0CCcQ6AEwAw#v=snippet&q=stanground%20&f=false Any ideas would be gratefully received :) Best wishes Sarah Sarah Botfield BA (Hons), MPhil Heritage Access Officer (HER) Planning Services Peterborough City Council Stuart House (East Wing) St John's Street Peterborough PE1 5DD Email: [log in to unmask] Telephone: 01733 453450 (Wednesday and Friday 8.00-4.00, Thursday 8.00-12.00) To find out more about Peterborough City Council, please go to: www.peterborough.gov.uk Please consider the environment before printing this email. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Conditions apply to the confidentiality, copyright, legal liability and use of this email.
