Readership/Lectureship in Natural Hazards and Risk
The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a new member of
academic staff in the general area of Natural Hazards and Risk. The
position will be based in the Schools of Mathematics, Geographical
Sciences or Earth Sciences, and cross-school appointments will be
considered. The three Schools have world-class expertise that spans a
broad range of fields, including mathematics applied to geophysical
flows, statistics, hydrology, seismology, volcanology, climate and ice
sheet modelling, and sediment transport. In addition the newly formed
Cabot Institute is promoting interdisciplinary research that brings
together expertise in natural sciences, engineering and the social
sciences to address issues of disaster risk reduction and societal
resilience. We are looking for candidates who can complement or
enhance existing expertise and take advantage of the multidisciplinary
and interdisciplinary environment offered by the University of
Bristol. Candidates with quantitative approaches and some experience
of risk assessment will be favoured. The appointment may be filled at
Reader or Lecturer levels depending on the experience and research
potential of individual candidates.

The successful candidate should have a PhD and be willing to
contribute fully to the relevant School’s undergraduate teaching
programmes. They should also have a proven track record of publishing
in leading international journals and in securing research funding.

It is expected that interviews will be held late March 2013. Short-
listed candidates will be invited to give a presentation and will be
assessed on their potential to fulfil the requirements of a Pathway
One Lecturer or Reader, in addition to their current achievements.
