February 2013

Dear friends of Inclusion Europe,

The European Year of Citizens is now well on track and Inclusion Europe had the opportunity to take part in a series of conferences, forums and open space events on the matter discussing civic rights and participation in the European Union.

The 2013 European Year is a unique occasion to step up on the pressure on European governments to advance the much-awaited reforms of legal capacity legislations that are necessary to ensure equal civil rights for all European citizens.

Common effort should be undertaken at national level to develop legislation that abolishes existing guardianship regimes, replacing them by supported-decision making systems which respect person’s autonomy, preferences and wishes.

Best wishes,
