Hi Steve,

Not a direct solution to the overall issue, but more of a workaround which would work in this instance, how about about listing the non assessed essay, as a separate piece of work.  It should be easy enough to point out to the students that the two things are linked if necessary, but at least the essay would then not interfere with the marking of the multiple choice questions.

Cheers,

Stuart

Subject: Non-assessed questions in Blackboard 9 Tests

A colleague is setting multiple choice tests in Blackboard which the system will happily mark without any intervention.

He has added an essay question which is not assessed (for students to provide feedback, which he will collate by exporting the responses to a spreadsheet).  This question is set to be worth 0 marks, but Blackboard flags every student’s attempt as “Needs Marking”.

Does anybody have a method for having a non-assessed essay (or short answer would do) question without needing to review each student’s submission for the rest of the test to be automatically marked?

Cheers

Steve
