Hello All,

At University of Westminster we have basic Turnitin integration and we were experiencing the premature release of grades for most of semester one. The work around that we used at the time, as some of you already suggested was to go in the Grade Centre and hide the column related to the assignment until post date.

It was not ideal but when I notified Turnitin their recommendation was to upgrade to the latest version of the plugin (were using 2.5.18 on Bb9.1, SP8). Really, this was not something that we wanted to do in the middle of the first semester especially when around 60% of all assignments within the institution are submitted in Turnitin.

Between terms we upgraded to 2.5.28 (the latest version at that time) and so far it looks like this fixed the problem.

Kind regards,

Yanna

Hello

We have just upgraded our Turnitin building block today to version 2.5.28 because we noticed that on our previous version (2.5.15) when we set up an assignment and set the Reveal grades to students only on post date to ‘yes’,this hid the column in the Grade Centre as expected. However if you went back into to the same assignment and chose Edit Assignment and then clicked the Submit button (even without any changes) the column in the Grade Centre mysterious changed and was shown/unhidden to students even though Reveal grades to students only on post date in the Turnitin Assignment was still set  to‘yes’.

This update seems to have fixed this paticular problem for us.

We are running Bb 9.1.70081.25

HI Salman,

Just in case .......

Once you have set the start, due and post dates for an assignment there is an optional setting button.  The option you are looking for should be hidden under that, about 8 questions down from the enter special instructions box.

Best Regards,

Stuart

Hi Paul,

We are facing similar problem here at Kingston and the issue has been reported to TurnItIn. Interestingly though, I do not see the “Reveal grades to students only on post date” option when creating a TurnItin assignment (We are using BB9.1 vSP6). Is the availability of this option anything to do with the version of BB one is using?

Best regards,

Salman

Hi Paul,

We have seen similar in Swansea.  The problem seems to occur where anonymity has not been set to be in use.  The work around that we employed was to disable the column in Gradecenter until the post date had passed.

Not ideal to have to keep changing settings, but as an interim solution it seemed to work.

Hope this is useful,

Stuart

Subject: Turnitin premature release of grades

Hi,

We have raised this problem with Turnitin but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced it.

The problem is to do with student access to the Grade Centre column which is created automatically when a new Turnitin assignment is set up. The availability of the column to students is controlled by a setting in the Turnitin set-up options called “Reveal grades to students only on post date”. If “Reveal grades…” is set to yes and the post date hasn’t come round, then Grade Centre column should be hidden to students. Once the post date is passed then the Grade Centre column is made available.

We are aware of numerous instances though in which the Grade Centre column is available to students, even though the Turnitin settings are correct. It seems that in these instances, setting the “Reveal grades…” option has had no effect on the Grade Centre column. The problem is frequent but there is no obvious pattern; it is not platform, browser type or browser version specific. The problem seems to have manifested since Turnitin’ s upgrade around September last year.

We are using Bb v9.1 sp8.

Does this problem sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks and best wishes,

Paul
