Dr. Shah,

The cause of your problem is likely related to the B21 circuit board located inside the goniometer. More specifically, there is an electrolytic capacitor rated at 0.47uF located very close to the J7 IC on that board which controls the ramping speed of the drives. Replacement is not complicated and I believe there is an excellent chance that this will solve your issue. Note the polarity of the original part as the replacement must be installed in the same orientation. I won't say this is a common problem, but the D500 has been such a bullet proof instrument that anything I've seen more than a few times becomes "common" and this has been a fairly consistent solution.

Best of luck to you and feel free to contact me off board if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Subject: d500 xrd goniometer repair

Sir,

I have d500 goniometer setiing problem. I have checked all logic. Can i get documentation on goniometer logic for setting theta thwo theta at 1,2 20,40 an 40 ,80.
In my machine when press set switch. The theta /two theta goes backwards ch also does not function in this modewith fast spped. slows down once refrence switches found but does not go to reverese mode to set theta two theta. Insted it goes down further in slow mode without setting. Stopswitch also does not function in this mode. Once mains is switched off. started again in this position and stopped is pressed once, and then set is pressed it goes to set function properly. please advise.
