I can't say when Shirley but I can say why it currently isn't...

Up until the XOT language developments I was keeping the current sandpit up-to-date with all the latest page types etc but all the work leading up to 1.8 and now 1.9 makes it less easy to do so because the sandpit has custom code allowing for the self-registration and management of accounts etc.

This is all being discussed but there isn't like to be a 1.9 sandpit in the next few weeks. To be honest one of the main reasons for the sandpits existence is that it's meant as a play area for people to assess the tools and create some LO's to then justify having an in-house installation. That justification isn't really specific to the very latest version and in some cases the availability of the sandpit impedes or delays progress with in-house installations. I know you are keen to establish an in-house installation and if you really do need to create something in the latest version to be able to make progress with getting agreement for that then contact me offlist.
