On Wednesday, 6th February, Leonard Paul will present the seminar 'Advanced Topics in Video Game Audio'.

Please note that the talk will take place at 10:00 am in the morning in F.B 1.08 in the Francis Bancroft building (not to be confused with the Bancroft Road building), Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS.

Advanced Topics in Video Game Audio

Abstract: 

This talk presents specific examples of how the presenter approached more difficult problems in video game audio that required granulation of sound, generative music, interactive music, dynamic sound design, making music using 30 year-old game consoles and more. Direct working examples from published games such as Retro City Rampage, NBA Jam 2010, Vessel and an upcoming unreleased title will be shown in order promote a discussion with the participants on advanced topics in game audio.

Bio:
Leonard Paul has worked in the games industry since 1994 and has a history in composing, sound design and coding for companies such as Electronic Arts, Backbone Entertainment and Radical Entertainment. He is an internationally renowned speaker on the topic of video game audio and has been invited to speak at at the Game Developer's Conference five times since 2003. In the past few years he has delivered lectures in Vancouver, Lyon, Berlin, Bogotá, London, Banff, San Francisco, San Jose, Porto, Angoulême and other locations around the world.

He has published papers in academic journals and has contributed chapters to books focusing on video game audio such as Karen Collin's From Pacman to Pop Music. In film, he is is best known as the composer for the award-winning Canadian documentary The Corporation. With over twenty major game titles to his credit his recent game credits include the indie games Vessel and Retro City Rampage and he is the co-founder of the School of Video Game Audio.
