Two postdoctoral positions and several PhD positions in the field of Computational and Theoretical Biophysics are available within the new "Innovative Medicine Initiative" project "New Drugs 4 Bad Bugs". Aim of the project is to enhance the understanding of the influx and efflux processes of antibiotics molecules through membrane proteins into bacteria. The successful candidates will work directly together with experimental groups doing research ranging from crystal structure determination, electrophysiology, microbiology to pharmaceutical applications. A direct collaboration with the world-leading pharmaceutical companies in this field of research is another advantage of the project. The work will either be performed at Jacobs University Bremen, Germany, or at Universita di Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy (or in a collaboration between both places). The PhD (3 years) and Postdoctoral (1 year; possible extension up to 5 years upon mutual agreement) positions are available immediately. Especially the possible long time frame for the postdoctoral positions opens additional possibilities of building an academic career on the present project. Highly motivated candidates with a strong background in (bio)physics or chemistry and experience in classical molecular dynamics simulations and/or electronic structure methods are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in programming and scripting is an advantage. Interested candidates should apply by sending an email message along with a CV to Ulrich Kleinekathoefer ([log in to unmask]) or Matteo Ceccarelli ([log in to unmask]) for the positions in Germany and Italy, respectively.
