‘…It is very encouraging to see black and minority ethnic organisations working very closely together and speaking with a unifying voice. The government needs to acknowledge that race inequalities persist in the UK and that there is still a long way to go if we are going to have a fair and a just society. The inequalities faced by Gypsy and Travellers remain some of the most extreme of any minority ethnic group...’

Goodbye to 2012 is a short video project produced by the Race Equality Foundation in collaboration with speakers from a number of voluntary, community and public sector organisations (http://www.raceequalityfoundation.org.uk/our-work/goodbye-2012).  Here Chris Whitwell, Director of the Gypsy-Traveller organisation Friends Families and Travellers (http://www.raceequalityfoundation.org.uk/publications/goodbyeto2012/chris-whitwell), gives his thoughts on how race equality has progressed in 2012, and his hopes for 2013.

Chris emphasises his disappointment with the progression of race equality in 2012, arguing in particular that Gypsy-Travellers tend to be seen as outside equalities policy, and as a group whose activities should be curtailed rather than protected.  He praises the work of the voluntary and community sector in working together as a unifying voice to protect all black and minority ethnic groups.

The Goodbye to 2012 videos will be published on the Foundation's Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/racefound?feature=mhee) in January 2013.  Your thoughts and feedback on the videos, and your own hopes for 2013, are much appreciated.
