**CFP pre-constituted panel for NECS 2013 conference: The politics of sound, music and moving image**

I am organising for the NECS Sound and Music in Media Work Group to submit one (or more) pre-constituted panel proposals to to the forthcoming NECS conference (Prague, 20-22 June 2013), taking a sound-focussed approach to the conference's Media Politics - Political Media theme. A pre-constituted panel potentially allows for a more cohesive exploration of sound in this context, and we would encourage a broad range of responses to the theme.

Proposals are welcome for 15-20 minute papers on the subject of politics, sound/music and moving image. Possible topics could include, but are not limited to:

- Political associations of music, sounds or sonic motifs
- The soundtrack and political engagement
- The political economy of the soundtrack
- ‘Produser’ sound and moving image approaches
- The soundtrack in party political broadcasts
- Sound and grassroots media
- Soundtrack and nation
- Soundtrack and revolution
- Sound and apparatus theory
- Ideology and film sound theory

Please send abstracts of up to 150 words, plus 3-5 key bibliographical references, your name and institutional affiliation, to Nessa Johnston ([log in to unmask]) by Monday the 14th of January. We will be in touch on Thursday the 17th of January with a decision (The general submission deadline is the 31st of January).

Best wishes,

Nessa Johnston, University of Glasgow

PS - If you are not currently a member of the NECS Sound and Music in Media Work Group, consider this an invitation to join!
