The ESRC National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) is funding a 3-day training event on Panel Data Analysis, delivered by Dr Franz Buscha from the University of Westminster. The event takes place at the University of Manchester.

Dates    20th February 2013 - 22nd February 2013

Description

This course is designed to serve as an introduction to panel data analysis and emphasis will be placed on providing an intuitive explanation of the underlying theory and the practical implementation thereof.

The course aims to introduce participants to simple linear panel data models with particular emphasis on random- and fixed-effects estimation. In addition, a strong focus will be placed on practical data preparation, manipulation, model implementation and interpretation using Stata. Participants will go through relevant examples during practical sessions which include data from the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS), the primary panel data set in the UK.

The overall emphasis of this course is on creating a “good practice” when first starting to analyse panel data. Prior experience has shown that participants are particularly interested in the practical application of basic techniques and first two days are designed to reflect this. The final day is designed to expose participants to more advanced concepts which they might encounter in their work such as dynamic panel data models or non-linear panel data models – however, this will depend on the relative progression of the course.
