We currently don’t record this and I have no plans to introduce it. It strikes me as one of those data types which is rarely used or asked for by people, so if it was required it might be more cost effective to generate it from GIS querying as a one off (we have the BGS data available) rather than add it for every record just in case.

Hi Paul,

We used to record them manually (inconsistently) then we decided that, as we had the geology maps, it would be more consistent to compare the HER polys/points etc with the geology map and automatically update the geology record for each that way.

Hi all,

 

Hopefully this will be fairly straightforward.  I wanted to canvass you on whether:

 

(1)   you record geology in records on a consistent basis;

(2)   whether the details of the geology come from the results of specific work (e.g. a DBA or a excavation report with actual descriptions, which may of course differ from the BGS) or whether you take if directly from BGS maps etc; and

(3)   Whether you record superficial deposits and bedrock or just one type
