Database/Data Migration Specialist urgently required for a 1 month contract (start asap).

Please see below for brief job specification.

The candidate will work alongside, and report directly to, our public sector client to help collate and migrate several disparate sources of survey information into an Access database (or similar) with reporting functionality, such as Crystal Reports.  The resultant database/reports will help support the client’s commitment to be technically resilient for current and future demands by ensuring they understand the skills and experience needed and available currently within their organisation.  This will provide a picture of where strengths and expertise lie but also indicate areas for development.

The information includes SurveyShack (http://www.surveyshack.com) responses to a skills and experience survey.  Information sources include MS Excel and MS Word so some manual processing will be required where python/.net scripting cannot extract relevant information.

Current known reporting/output requirements are:

·         a series of strategic management reports

·         basic gap identification of skills needed and skills available

·         identification of areas where strengths exist

·         the ability to search for keywords/terms within the database (e.g. via a database front end).

Project requirements are currently being finalised via a scoping study which will be completed by 9th January and will define the scope of work in greater detail.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have strong data literacy with proven understanding of:

·         database design and development (likely MS Access due to its availability for our client’s staff),

·         data migration,

·         scripting (VBScript, .net or python), and

·         Crystal Reports or other commonly available reporting software.

The candidate must have a keen eye for detail and be:

·         self motivated, able to work independently and organised,

·         able to produce high quality, accurate and error-free work,

·         able to readily share knowledge and skills with others, and

·         an effective communicator.

Previous experience of collating, evaluating and developing reports of survey-type data would be an distinct advantage, as would prior experience of working on projects for the public sector.

The candidate would ideally be located in/around Bristol to enable access to the client’s office, but other locations will be considered.
