Building on success -Postgraduate Funding for Latin American and Iberian studies projects at Newcastle University

Newcastle University is home to an important group of national and international scholars with research interests in Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal. Our expertise covers a range of Social Science and Humanities disciplines ranging from human geography, environmental studies, sociology and politics, to history, anthropology, cultural studies, film studies, music, and sociolinguistics. Our research and teaching activity is broad in disciplinary expertise and thematic interests, and is supported by language training in Spanish, Portuguese, Quechua and Catalan. Postgraduate projects are co-supervised by interdisciplinary teams from across the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, tailored to individual interests, and students immediately become part of a lively and nurturing research environment http://www.ncl.ac.uk/niassh/americas/.

Last year Newcastle University was awarded 4 fully funded ESRC PhD studentships in Latin American Studies from the NE Doctoral Training Centre as part of a dedicated pathway.
