Dear All, I have little to add to this scholarly discussion, except that the National Trust does not record a copy of the Samual Hearne title at Bateman's, and I wonder if we should add Caspar Whitney to the possible reading sources. Again, no copy at Bateman's, but I do know that his 1896 *"On Snow Shoes to the Barren Grounds"* includes a reference (yours if you want to follow up) to a meeting with a famous Soto Indian runner called Kipling!
