But, as Andrew says below, the change to avoid unnecessary
mistakes won’t affect how the list functions as a discussion forum.
It just means there’s a security step: cut and paste the list email
instead of pressing reply.

So do we want a discussion list or an information board?
I favour discussion as to be honest I am overwhelmed with information,
but as a freelancer, I welcome discussion, and often find the too and fro a
rich source of ideas. Yes we have all made the reply all mistake at some
point, but no one died and quite often it gives us all a bit of light relief.

Interesting
that the replies to the list have favoured replies to the list and vice versa.
Speaking
as previous victim of the embarrassing reply to list reflex, I like to see what

the status quo. If only it could be fitted with a breathalyser...

Yes, I
think that could be done. To be honest I don't, at present, know how to set it
up to send such a thing periodically but (a) jiscmail's quite intuitive and (b)
I hear their online help people are very helpful, so it's probably achievable.
I've pencilled this in to my mental task list for next year. What I'd been
thinking of was to see if there's a bulletin-ish board sort of thing at
jiscmail where I can plonk a lot of that sort of stuff, including welcome
messages and helpful suggestions etc, and include a link to it rather than the
text. I'm not entirely sure if that's feasible, but I have a plan B.
Thanks to everyone who's been in touch about the reply-to function though - so
far it's about 20 people and it's almost universal that people are pretty keen
to go for a reply-to-sender over reply-to-list. But early days obviously and
it's all to play for :)

It's
not about the reply button, but is there any way to stop every
message including the *huge* JISCMAIL footer? Could this information
not be mailed to suscribers once a month, as with many other lists I
subscribe to? Anyone else feel the same?
