Hi Sharon ( and all )
Many thanks for your swift and informative views.
I am starting to realise it will be easier and more cost effective to identify an NHS OH service in Worcester.

Thanks again Debbie

I looked into this a few years back, its a bit fraught with difficulty and you need to determine the following:

Why are you being asked to do this? Is it because there is risk of occupational exposure to TB? If not then there needs to be a very good reason to undertake this work....in my place of work at the time there was demonstrable risk and I still didnt get very far
If you are doing Mantoux you will also need to be trained in administration of BCG
The only place that Mantoux/BCG are done as standard is within NHS OH and/or TB centres/chest clinics. Even practise nurses dont do this as standard practise these days as BCGs arent routinely administered any more
The training is hard to come by if you are non-NHS
Some of the big providers train their staff to do this as they have the resources, as a lone practitioner (if you are one) you might struggle
There are practical issues, the Mantoux needs to be
administered, then checked 2 days later. If indicated you may then have to administer BCG. If the employer has people working shifts its a nightmare
The consumables eg vaccines etc are in short supply and may be difficult to get hold of in non NHS setting
You will need PDG etc signed off by relevant parties
If you come across a non straight forward result you will need some form of onward referral route to local specialist centre
If something goes wrong you will need a referral route - an OHP probably isnt sufficient
In order to prove "competence" you will need to be observed and continue undertaking the procedures regularly - so is this an ongoing programme or a one off?

I could go on, to be honest it was easier/more cost effective to farm the work out in my case and pay for it

Hi Debbie,

You will probably find that most NHS OH departments undertake mantoux testings. Your local NHS OH dept may also be able to advise you where they undertook their training.

Kind regards Suzanne

All,
I am inexperienced with reference to immunisation programmes, and have been asked if OH practitioners can be skilled to perform mantoux skin tests.
I thought this activity was primarily performed through chest clinics??
Any feedback is much appreciated.
