VDU’s

We use a voucher scheme which (against my better judgement) OH administers. Since joining the Trust, I have developed a form that the manager has to sign to attest to compliance with the VDU legislation and we hand over the voucher. See attached. I do not see it as a OH role to police how much DSE work a person does. Clinicians, microscope users, radiologists and similar are not allowed to use the scheme unless they can prove they are on the computer without choice for 70-80% of every shift.

I am going to change suppliers to a more simple scheme with another supplier when we run out of our current Edenred supply as there is only one voucher in this new scheme, no separate one for the glasses/ lens addition and they can use any participating optician including normally their own.

Sharps

Health and Safety and Supplies are managing the implementation though I am on the committee and we are helping with the trials of products (clearly in a children’s hospital tit is essential we get adult compatible products tested too).

Sue

Unusual combination I know, but you can guess the link. I would be very grateful if any of you would be able to let me know how you are managing a couple of areas

VDU's - we have a new director with responsibility for H&S who would like to know how others manage their responsibilities under the display screen regulations. Do any of you use an in-house service, is this effective for you? Those of you who use voucher schemes from national providers, do you police this system to limit staff who receive a voucher, does this work?

Safe sharps - it has been suggested to me that it is predominantly my OH colleagues out there who are managing the introduction of the EU directive of safer sharps. I would really like to gauge the proportion of you out there who are leading on this to see if I am way off base here.

Any support would be really appreciated, right now we seem to be receiving quite a deluge of different things we "should" be leading on.
