Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] Thyroid and vision problems

Good evening,

This sounds like Graves disease and yes I have had a little experince
with a client or two. If it is Graves Disease then the endocrinologist
is likely to refer to a opthamolgist and specialist optician services.

In my experience the symptoms were quite impactive on all tasks that
require concentrated periods of reading whether a computer or paperwork
and are of course also impactive on home life with television, leisure
reading and driving becoming a problem the driving particularly at
night.

Surgical interventions and prisms in glasses as well as better control
of the thyroid levels can assist if clinically indicated and
unfortunately the only solutions at work that we looked at was frequent
breaks from reading tasks, varied work and altered hours to avoid
driving in the dark (reduced hours in the winter). I did not try Access
to Work as they had specific roles that meant ill health retirement was
relevant.

Regards
Kate
