Hi
Jesting aside..

Some of you may have already heard about English Heritage's new online resource 'Disabilityin Time and Place' . Launched this week a fantastic resource documenting disability history throughout the ages. www.english-heritage.org.uk/disabilityhistory.

I attended the launch on Wednesday. As part of the proceedings 'The Misfit's theatre company including people with learning difficultires presented a couple of short extracts from their show 'All the Kings Fool's which I understand they had done for Hampton Court. Pete Cooper who worked with the company had originally been asked to research Tudor Court Jesters for hampton Court and had discovered that one of most famous was a man with learning difficulties. So when he developed a piece for HC he naturally involved the misfits. there is a link on the EH resource which can tell you more. http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/discover/people-and-places/disability-history/about-the-project/links-and-resources/

I thoroughly enjoyed their performances at the launch and think this must have been a great show at HC and an innovative creative 'rethinking disability approach'  A show to be seen again.  Check it out.

Subject: Re: medieval entertainment - jester?

It was a foul, wet and windy evening and Sir Galahad needed to sally forth to the neighbouring castle. However, Sir Galahad’s horse had died and the only alternative was a giant, mangey, flea-ridden St. Bernard which was King Arthur’s pooch.

So Sir Galahad leapt upon the sad animal and ordered the castle gates be opened. But King Arthur placed his hand upon the brave knight’s shoulder and bade him stay. “I wouldn’t let a knight out on a dog like this” he cried.

Happy Friday
