Hi Karen

We normally discuss with the students as to why they need the break and how long they think they would need. They are very reasonable and only want 5-10 mins either to walk about due to physical pain or take medication. We suggest they have a break per hour of the paper and then advise them how long they will be sitting their exams if they take say 10 mins per hour and more often than not they themselves reduce the amount of time they have for breaks.

We've only had 1 student in the past who needed a lot of breaks - a break every 15 mins for 10 mins due to a serious spinal condition.

The book says:
2.4.4...... There will be some constraints on timing if the candidate has more than one examination to take each day. The supervised rest break is not included in any extra time allowance.

Good morning all

Apologies for mentioning our most hated subject, but this it's in relation to supervised rest breaks.

Our Senco has just discovered this, and we now have a number of students who are entitled to Supervised Rest breaks, I have been looking in the joke book (oops I meant the JCQ regulations) to see is there limit as to either how long a rest break can last or how many breaks a student can take. Whilst I appreciate that it must relate to the severity of the students condition - I feel in one particular instance a one and half hour exam could end up lasting all day!

How do you monitor or regulate this in your Centre, information will be greatly received.
