We also start at 1pm. School buses leave the town at 3.45pm and many students living in rural areas would not be able to get home if we started later, as there are very few scheduled services in this neck of the woods.
I also asked for the attachment! It hasn't come through yet though

We start ours at 1pm...If your start at 2pm you must have some very late finishes when students have several exams in one day?

Hi everyone
What does everyone think of this?
We have always started our exams at 2pm so we will have to change to 1.30pm if they change it to 1pm
I don't really understand the logic behind it I am sure we can raise it at the AoC conference in Feb
Thanks
Sally

Subject: JCQ Survey 2012-13 Afternoon Start Time

Dear Exams Officer,

In recent years the JCQ and its awarding body members have been approached by centres asking if the published starting time for afternoon examinations could be amended.

The present published starting time of 1.30pm, with a variation of half an hour, can cause significant problems for rural schools, or those schools with students who are collected by bus/coach from outlying villages.

Although the afternoon examination session may commence at 1pm, and the JCQ Common Timetable Working Group has made strenuous efforts to timetable longer GCE A2 examinations in the morning session, we appreciate the concerns of some centres.

In light of these representations we are canvassing centres on whether the published starting time for the afternoon examination session should be amended from 1.30pm to 1pm with effect from 1 September 2014.

The consultation will run until 19 July 2013.

The completed form should be returned by fax to 020 7 374 4343.

May I thank you for your participation.

Nick Lait
JCQ
