LEONARD P ULLMANN CHAIR IN METABOLIC SYSTEMS BIOLOGY CHARLES PERKINS CENTRE / FACULTIES OF SCIENCE AND MEDICINE REFERENCE NO. 942/0612 § Lead world-changing research to improve health outcomes § Lead systems metabolism research and education § Unique opportunity to be part of a rich multidisciplinary community The University has applied its internationally recognised academic credentials to ease the burden of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease by forming the Charles Perkins Centre - a unique collaboration of scholars across many disciplines. To this end, we are seeking a scholar of international distinction to join us in leading cross-disciplinary research that translates into real-world solutions. This position will sit within one of the four main research domains within the centre: the biological mechanisms of disease. You will lead the development of research into the functioning of metabolic systems in healthy and diseased states. You will lead education in this area for the centre, and may also be asked to assume the role of Domain Leader and to sit as a member of the Executive Committee for the Charles Perkins Centre. You will be based in the Charles Perkins Centre's new 47,000 m2 building, and will be appointed jointly through the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine. As Chair/Professor, you will: * provide leadership in scholarship through innovative and distinguished research * attract and build strong strategic alliances in metabolic research across universities, academic and health related organisations, government, philanthropic organisations, the media, and the general public * foster an environment for collaboration and synergy among Charles Perkins Centre members across all disciplines § engage your vision and enthusiasm to foster excellence in scholarship, in promoting research and research policy and in developing research training § utilise your excellent management skills to provide leadership in policy development and the development of staff * draw upon your experience in leading research teams to build successful teams and obtain substantial funding to support a research program * provide leadership in postgraduate teaching and research training * take an active role in the development of cross-disciplinary educational programs and in the promotion of innovation in curriculum design and teaching methods. Term and remuneration The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.
