Dear All,
I write in the spirit of remembering Rosa Parks profound act of self, and justice, on a fateful day, many years ago. Her 1957 action -- an intensely spatial action -- profoundly changed the way in which African Americans thought of themselves, and the way in which white-supremacist dominated America were positioned politically, through the act of refusing to sit in the back of a Montgomery, Alabama bus, on December 1. This act overturned the spatiality of injustice African American citizens faced each day, at every turn.
As Geographers, I believe it is particularly pertinent to reflect on this powerful act of the self.
Thank you, Rosa Parks, for changing not only history, but ourselves.
Regards,
