Over the two days this latest event in the ‘plotting a new course’ series offers participants a unique opportunity to both hear about how new developments in the UK will impact on alcohol, drugs and tobacco policies and future practice, as well as having the opportunity through a simulation exercise to consider the immediate practical implications.
Under different initiatives and legislation – Public Health England, the integration agenda in Scotland, ‘21st Century Healthcare’ in Wales – a common theme of a ‘joined-up’ approach is evident. The incorporation of how we address ‘substance use’ into the wider public health agenda has potential for a more holistic approach, but may also have implications for resourcing.
The two days will be a mix of presentations by leading figures and facilitated discussions, to examine current policy issues with respect to drugs, alcohol and tobacco, the nature and extent of problems, the state of the evidence and the new public health policy drivers.
The aim of the conference is to enable participants to have an understanding of the impact of the imminent changes on their work, placing the new policy and practice in context for policy reformers, consumers, commissioners, service providers, patients/service users and welfare recipients.
