The independence of India did cause problems for Portugal as its territories (Goa, Daman and Diu) were not handed over to India at independence. There was also the issue of French teritories and their future in India, and the small Omani port (Gwadur). So initially Portugal and France were brought into the fore of Indian diplomatic issues.

I suppose you've suggested the FO papers in TNA?  There must have been a lot of feedback from embassies all over the world.  Not sure where the intelligence papers are filed. They might also be of interest.

One of my former students – now doing A Level at a sixth form college – is looking for primary sources to help her answer a question about the short term impact of Indian independence on international relations. Any suggestions?
