The Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds wishes to appoint the Leeds/Bradford Chair in Epidemiology. This role will sit within the Leeds Institute of Genetics, Health and Therapeutics (LIGHT) and the Bradford Institute for Health Research (BIHR). The Chair will be based in Bradford with the expectation of some time spent in Leeds.

The Leeds Institute of Genetics, Health and Therapeutics (LIGHT), one of the four institutes in the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, supports and maintains strong links with the Bradford Institute for Health Research (BIHR). To this end, the School is seeking a senior academic to work across and help integrate activities across the two Institutes. Areas of focus in the LIGHT include all areas of non-communicable disease, and areas of focus within BIHR cluster around the Born in Bradford (BiB) cohort study (www.borninbradford.nhs.uk).

The BiB cohort is a multi-ethnic birth cohort study of nearly 14,000 families that offers a unique opportunity for multidisciplinary medical research. The genetic, epigenetic, psychological and social determinants of health, development and well-being are tracked through bespoke data collection (biological, clinical & survey data) and linkage to primary and secondary care, public health and educational systems. Unlike most population cohort studies, BiB is embedded in clinical practice, offering exciting opportunities for applied research and intervention studies.

The successful post-holder will report to the Head of Division, through whom they will be responsible to the Director of LIGHT and through him/her to the Dean of the Faculty. The individual will work closely with colleagues across the academic and clinical communities in Leeds and Bradford. In terms of the University/NHS partnership, close links with the Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (BTHFT) are essential.
