New Monument Fellowships from the Museums Association
With funding from the Arts Council England, Museums Galleries Scotland and the Welsh Government the Museums Association is inviting applications for a new round of Monument Fellowships. In a change from previous rounds, we are extending the programme beyond collections, to other museum specific specialisms such as learning and exhibitions.

The Fellowships are designed to enable retired museum specialists to work with former colleagues, their successors and the wider museum community to share and develop knowledge and skills. They are open to any Accredited museum in England, Scotland and Wales, working with a retired or about-to-retire collections, education, exhibitions or other museum specific specialist. With guidance from the MA, successful museums and Fellows will plan a project in which the Fellow will work with an individual successor or an appropriate group of colleagues to share and develop knowledge.

Fellowships will be 30 days in length, typically spread over about 6 months. Fellows will receive a daily fee of £100. Host museums and Fellows will receive a package of support and guidance from the MA. We have funding to support:

- 10 Fellowships in England
- 4 Fellowships in Scotland
- 1 Fellowship in Wales

Free 3D object scanning for UK Art Nouveau collections?
Free 3D object scanning may be made available to institutions who participate in the EC-funded Partage Plus project which seeks to digitise European Art Nouveau collections. The Collections Trust is co-ordinating the project, and is now seeking UK collections who wish to contribute their content to it. The project involves working with 23 institutions in 17 European countries over a period of 24 months to digitize European Art Nouveau objects, artworks, posters, and buildings to create content and a specialist Art Nouveau terminology for more than 75,000 items - including 2,000 3D models - for access through Europeana.

The Collections Trust needs to contribute content to the project from UK institutions. Even if a collection is not currently online, the CT team is interested receiving information about it, and there may be the potential to receive free 3D scanning of selected objects as part of the project. To discuss contributing content, please contact European Projects Officer Katie Smith at [log in to unmask] or call her on 020 7942 6063 with a brief description of your collections size and the types of objects held within it.

Curator - Regimental Museum of the Royal Welch Fusiliers
Caernarfon Castle, Gwynedd
Full Time, Permanent, Salary: £23,000 - £26,000
Closing Date: 30th November 2012

The Regimental Museum of the Royal Welch Fusiliers was first established in Wrexham Depot but in 1959, following the closure of the depot, a decision was taken to move the entire museum to the Queen’s Tower at Caernarfon Castle. Here it has remained although the displays and display cases of the 1960s have now been replaced by a modern redisplay, opened in July 1999 thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Regimental Museum is managed by a charitable trust and trustees now wish to make an appointment of a Curator following the retirement of the previous incumbent Mr Brian Owen. Further information about the museum can be obtained by viewing the museum website.

NEWYDDION - CYMRU

National Museum of Wales buys Margam House paintings
Two panoramic 18th Century paintings of one of the great former houses of Wales have gone on show at the National Museum Cardiff for the first time. The museum bought the paintings of the now disappeared Tudor Margam House for £218,500. The paintings are the Welsh museum's first early estate works and they show a landscape now transformed by the M4 and the Port Talbot steelworks. They illustrate the dramatic changes over the last 300 years.

Swansea's Glynn Vivian Art gallery receives further cash
Swansea's Glyn Vivian art gallery is to receive a £250,000 funding boost to help make the layout of the 1911 building more appealing to visitors. The gallery is nearly half way through a £6.7m two-year redevelopment funded by the Arts Council for Wales, Swansea council and Heritage Lottery Fund. The museum, backed by former member Bjorn Ulvaeus, will feature some of the band's glitzy stage costumes, instruments and other mementos. Visitors will also be able to sing along to Abba songs alongside life-size holograms of the group. Ulvaeus said he hoped all four members would attend the museum's opening set for next spring, but ruled out any chance of a stage comeback.
