italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

Call for Papers: On the Fringe of the Neo-Avant-Garde. American Association for Italian Studies Conference, April 2013, University of Oregon.

Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the first meeting of Gruppo 63. Over the last fifty years, however, critics have elected to focus on a handful of authors, and only on a fraction of their works, at that. As a result, one could say that the Neo-avant-garde has been neutralized and turned into a museum art. In fact, the most recalcitrant experiments have been almost invariably brushed aside, labeled as intractable, and thus neglected. And yet, these are some of the most fruitful experiments produced by the Neo-avant-garde. They are considered "minor" because of who wrote them, the genre they belong to, the medium they used, or simply because their author is better known for something else entirely. Possible topics may include but are not limited to: the influence of the Italian Neo-avant-garde outside of Italy (France, Spain, Brazil, U.S., etc); visual poetry; sound poetry; new media; theatre; conferences/ events/ exhibitions/happenings. This panel is organized by the editorial board of sempremai, online blog and literary journal – www.sempremai.net –. Please send a 200 word abstract by the 25th of November to the following email addresses.
