INTRODUCTION TO QUALITATIVE RESEARCH METHODS 11-15 February 2013 20-24 May 2013 This one week course is aimed at health professionals, researchers and postgraduate students with little or no understanding of qualitative research methods. It aims to provide hands on practical experience of different qualitative methods including in-depth interviewing, focus groups and ethnography. It is particularly suited for people who are starting work on a project with a qualitative dimension, doctoral students at the beginning of their projects or those who are thinking about using qualitative research methods. ANALYSING QUALITATIVE INTERVIEWS 7-8 February 2013 11-12 April 2013 This two day course is aimed at researchers who are planning to undertake or manage qualitative research using in-depth or semi structured interviews or those who have already collected qualitative interview data which they are unsure how to analyse. It aims to introduce the principles and practice of qualitative interview data analysis, with particular emphasis on thematic analysis techniques. It uses a combination of practical workshops, group discussions and formal lectures. The course will also give an overview of other approaches to qualitative analysis. INTRODUCTION TO QUALITATIVE INTERVIEWING 21-22 February 2013 This two-day course is aimed at researchers who have little or no experience of qualitative interviewing. Previous courses have attracted researchers from the health service, clinicians and social scientists. The only requirements are an interest in qualitative interviewing and the desire to conduct better interviews. The course aims to provide hands on practical experience of different qualitative interviewing skills. INTRODUCTION TO FOCUS GROUPS 1 March 2013 This one day course is aimed at health professionals, researchers and postgraduate students who want to develop skills in organising and facilitating focus groups and in analysing focus group data. The course is suitable for those with little or no understanding of focus group method as well as those wishing to review and broaden existing skills. Practical exercises and small group work will be used throughout the course to develop competence in designing topic guides, moderating focus groups and analysing data. INTRODUCTION TO MEDIA CONTENT ANALYSIS 8 March 2013 This one day course is aimed at researchers who have little or no experience of content analysis. Everyone is welcome, regardless of research background. The course aims to introduce researchers to the method of manifest and latent content analysis with step by step instruction on developing a coding frame, coding and analysing media stories. Although the course is primarily targeted at those with an interest in examining the media's influence on health using content analysis, the method can be used to analyse a variety of text. QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS CLINIC NEW COURSE! 3 May 2013 This one day course is aimed at people who have previously attended our 2-day Analysing Qualitative Interviews course or our one-week Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods course but who wish to gain further experience and confidence in analysing data using a thematic approach. Using examples from their own qualitative research projects, students will have the opportunity to analyse data under the guidance of experienced qualitative researchers.
