Chair in Russian Studies Faculty of Arts School of Modern Languages and Cultures Reference: ARTML0077 Closing Date: Friday 21st December 2012 http://www.universityofleedschairs.co.uk/russian-studies.php As part of a major investment in new staff, the Faculty of Arts at the University of Leeds wishes to make an appointment to a Chair in Russian Studies in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (SMLC). We seek a forward-looking, energetic individual to lead a close-knit group of dynamic scholars in Russian Studies, to bring the SMLC to the forefront of international recognition in the field of Russian Studies both in provision of a cutting-edge student curriculum and in research. The successful candidate will have an outstanding research record, a strong commitment to student education and to academic leadership in the subject area and the broader School. Although no preference will be given to any particular area of specialism, the successful candidate must be prepared to take a prominent position in the research culture of the SMLC and in the pioneering agenda of the Leeds Russian Centre, a collaborative, cross-Faculty research initiative devoted to 'Russia(n) in the Global Context', and as such should demonstrate an interdisciplinary dimension in his/her research profile. S/he will also exploit and enhance existing links with the world-leading Leeds Russian Archive in the Special Collections of the University Library. The successful candidate will be expected to give academic and intellectual leadership within their subject area and for the benefit of the School and the Faculty of Arts. She/he will be able to provide inspirational research-led teaching for the School's taught course programmes and successful supervision of research students. The Chair will be required to build effective collaborative relationships in their subject area, and to participate positively in the national and international organisations of their subject area.
