Hi Amy,

The only one we had was from a company in the USA who verified people’s qualifications. The person had applied for a job in the US (they lived there) and they wanted us to confirm which schools he had attended. They did send his authorization to disclose to them, but our view was saying that Mr X had gone to Milford Grammar School from 1970 – to 1976 wasn’t too sensitive to release. It was that long ago too !

Thanks

Brenda

Subject: [data-protection] Section 29 Request from Spain

Afternoon All,

I am looking for some advice regarding a request I have received from a Spanish Authority.

The request has come from their Foreign Taxpayers Department and they are trying to trace an individual from our area that owes a debt under the Spanish Taxation Act. They have quoted Section 29 of the Data Protection Act 1998, stating that they are entitled to the information as they are a public authority who require the information for the purposes of collecting a tax or duty.

This is the first time that I have ever had a request from of this kind from oversees and just wondered if anyone else regularly deals with DPA requests from outside the country?

Many thanks,
