Surely the ‘Middle East’ is of interest to everyone, especially now. There are many places to comment.

This should not prevent or hinder individuals making comments on the Middle East, as they do about Africa, Asia, or elsewhere.

My query a few weeks ago remains as to whether matters concerning Jewish, black or Asian people were off-limits. The response on basa jiscmail was 'general quietness'.

I believe there is 'general fear' of some kind to engage in a discussion.

Is the middle east not a concern of Black and Asian people also? Many of them live there.

If they have direct links then that will show up in the research being carried out by historians.

To limit the study of the history of African and Asian people in the UK is pointless and not useful.

Such people may have direct links with the Middle East.

BASA = the Black & Asian Studies Association. In practice, this has meant people of African and Indian sub-continent origins/descent. The focus of our work was uncovering and propagating their history in the UK and dealing with certain aspects of discrimination, especially in the education system, in libraries and in archives. Surely we cannot extend to take in all ‘settlers’.
