1 year full-time fixed term contract (maternity cover)

The Clothworkers’ Company, one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London, is seeking to recruit an experienced archivist on a fixed term contract to cover the maternity leave of the current incumbent for a period of 12 months.

 

The Company was founded in 1528 and its records are complete from the sixteenth century, with some earlier records relating to property holdings.  The Archive covers all aspects of the Company’s activity, with particular strengths in genealogical information, property records and records of the Company’s charitable activity.

 

Applications are invited from individuals with a recognised postgraduate qualification in archives administration and a broad range of post-qualification experience.

 

Your duties will include: working towards completion of the archive catalogue (CALM) and making it available via the Company’s website; implementation of appropriate preservation procedures; appraisal and disposition of non-current records; maintaining and improving records management procedures; taking responsibility for other heritage collections (including paintings, a small library and an important collection of plate); answering enquiries; undertaking outreach activities including assisting with publications and organising and delivering historical tours of Clothworkers’ Hall. 

 

The successful candidate will be flexible, self-motivated, able to manage and prioritise their work schedule and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  You will need to demonstrate skill in palaeography (basic Latin would be an advantage but is not essential) and possess a high standard of computer literacy.
