Hi Michel,

I am not sure why this should be a national problem, as oestradiol of any value determined by whatever method is  a poor determinant of peri/menopausal status, FSH may be marginally better but is also by no mean diagnostic. Or have I missed something.

Regards

Mohammad

Subject: Oestradiol and Aromatase Inhibitors

Dear Omniscient Mass,

I’ve been discussing with our oncologists the problem of determining ovarian function in patients on aromatase inhibitors.

The general conclusion is that standard Oestradiol immunoassays are not good enough to provide accurate determination of pre/menopausal status in patients to go on these drugs.

The recommendation (J.Clin.Oncol 24:2444-2447;2006) is that an extraction method is used.

Is there anyone out there doing this?  It must be a national problem.
