Hi Gethin,
Thanks. Yes, when I re-read my email I wondered if it was actually ‘ok’, in that the recommendation to use the Standard Unit would accommodate the Read
Code (and ‘we’, using ng/L would be fine!).
But then my IT link told me this morning that the only unit being ‘given’ us to use on the latest PMIP report was ug/L – so I just thought I’d wait for
Mailbase feedback.
Yes, apologies; we only run TnI so I shouldn’t have generalised to T!
I’ll await your feedback post-meeting. Thanks again,
Liz

Subject: RE: Units of measurement
Hi Liz
Thanks for picking up this issue. Pathology Harmony recommended ng/L for both Troponin T and I within the phase 2 work.
At the time hsTroponin T methods were already in use and we anticipated that hs Troponin I methods would soon be available.
My understanding is that there was a discrepancy between Harmony and the PBCL for Troponin I, but not for T (both quoting
ng/L for the latter)
I’ll feedback on the Troponin I discrepancy following the Harmony meeting this Wednesday
Best regards
Gethin

Subject: Units of measurement
Dear All,
Could someone explain to me please the present discrepancy between the reporting units for Troponin I (and T) according to Pathology Harmony, which are as those being recommended
for the PBCL ‘Standard Unit’ – ng/L – versus those applying to the PBCL ‘Standardised Format’ – ug/L?!
I appreciate, according to the August 2012 PMIP Lab Messaging Audit Report, that the PBCL ‘Standard Unit’, only recently published, has been ‘signed off’ by the professional bodies
(RCPath, ACB and IBMS), whereas the Standardised Format is applicable where tests are being sent which are not using Read Codes, but we are being encouraged, aren’t we, to adopt those according to Pathology Harmony, yet ‘must’ attach Read Codes to our results,
and can’t do that unless they’re ‘still’ in the PBCL Standardised Format; so which is correct?
Thanks very much,
Liz
