Hi Mark

I would just like to confirm what Stuart said. The setup can be quite complex and does need some thinking, especially if there are a number of categories of users such as VL and partnership colleges, in addition to your own staff and students, we use Novell IDM but use Novell e-directory, but like you use SITS e-vision. The whole process from registration to ID card is almost fully automated and includes automatic creation of library, email, VLE accounts etc. Synchronisation of passwords and mifare card details occurs through IDM. We also used Salford to setup our IDM system and Access Manager gateway which allows single sign-on for most products.

Hope this helps.

I would like to look at the possibility of using some form of identity management system that students could effectively create their own accounts through an online portal, perhaps uploading passport photo images (that could be used for ID card purposes etc) at the same time. I am guessing that they could access the portal as soon as they have been accepted at the University and by logging in create the account etc, or rather simply change the password to an account already created through the enrolment process.
