Hi
Just to add my situation.
We run mandatory profiles (one for staff and one for students – both 5.4mb each) and logins take between 8 and 15 seconds depending on the age of the PC.
Our base image runs;
Win7 x32 Enterprise
Office 2010
Adobe CS4 Design Suite Premium
And a load of other software (attached)
We allow staff and students to have the appearance of “roaming” by reg-hacks; for example on logout some Microsoft Office registry keys are exported to their home area and are applied on login. Its not a full roaming profile but from canvassing user comments its really only Office/Adobe CS that the students want to be able to customise.
So when a user changes the Office Toolbar its saved on logout into the registry and then re-applied on login.
We have 2 roaming profiles for a couple of our SLDD students, these take around 20-25 seconds to login, but these are being removed as we find out the regkeys that the students alter in relation to their specific needs.

Subject: windows 7 first logon speed
Apologies in advance as I am sure this subject has been covered before.
I would like to know your experiences with windows 7 logon speed in open access PC labs.
Our PC labs have a large collection of applications installed including but not limited to:
Office 2010
Arc Gis 9.3
Google Earth
Visual Studio 2010
SPSS 19
Mathmatica
Matlab
MiKTex & TeXnicCenter
The default user Appdata folder is about 180 MB which is the smallest I could get it and we have a single GPO which applies a couple of Computer Configuration settings.
In our open access PC labs each time a user logs on it takes roughly 2-3 minutes. We run deep freeze so a new build profile is built every time. Subsequent logons are almost instantaneous provided the machine is not restarted.
In the days of IPADs and other instant on devices 2-3 minutes can feel like an age.
Has anyone a similar set up that has managed to improve log on speeds that would like to share their experience?
Many thanks
Valente
