Dear Colleagues

I have a postdoctoral position available in my group.

Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences

School of Chemistry

Research Fellow in Theoretical Chemistry

Fixed term for 36 months, available from 13 November 2012

Research Project: Orbit-Based Methods for Multielectron Systems in Strong Fields

This project is a collaboration between Dr Carla Faria (University College London), Professor Henning Schomerus (Lancaster University) and Dr Dmitry Shalashilin (University of Leeds) to develop and apply new methods of quantum mechanics, which use classical trajectories to speed up quantum calculations and to apply them to the dynamics of electrons driven by strong laser field. You will be based in Leeds.

You should have a theory based PhD (or will have submitted your thesis prior to taking up the position) in Chemistry, Physics or a related area. Experience in the area of quantum, classical and semiclassical dynamics, as well as electronic structure methods, is essential. Good experience of analytical and numerical techniques together with programming skills is also required. Experience in other areas of theoretical chemistry would be an advantage.

Information on the Quantum and Classical Molecular Dynamics Group can be found at http://www1.chem.leeds.ac.uk/CCS/

University Grade 6 (£24,520 - £29,249 p.a.) or University Grade 7 (£30,122 - £35,938 p.a.) dependent on qualifications and experience. It is likely that an appointment will be made no higher than £30,122 p.a. since there are funding limitations which dictate the level at which this appointment can start.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Dmitry Shalashilin, email [log in to unmask], tel +44 (0)113 343 7610.

Closing Date: 26 November 2012
