Dear All

Sorry for the 'round-robin' email, but we just want to be sure we have circulated this vacancy as widely as possible in our networks. The HLF, as you probably know, is looking to fill a vacancy in its Wales Committee: this is the grant decision-making committee for individual grant applications up to £2million. Further details of the vacancy and how to apply are given here:  http://www.hlf.org.uk/news/Pages/CommitteemembersforEnglandandWales.aspx

In particular, we are looking for expertise in the following areas: historic buildings, museums/libraries/archives or working with communities/young people. The closing date for applications is October 22nd.

We've already had a lot of interest in the post, and the key questions we've been receiving have been:

- how do we deal with conflicts of interest: we have a well-honed system, not unlike other public sector bodies. If it is agreed there is a conflict of interest the person would leave the room for the discussion and decision of that application, and during any prioritisation of funding at times of competition.  T his works well if likely conflicts arise rarely, however if this is likely to happen regularly, ie at every quarterly meeting then this would have an impact on the efficiency of the Committee and would be reviewed.
- the time commitment is likely to be, on average, in the region of two days a month to include the quarterly meetings, and preparation for them; site visits where applicable, and attending HLF-funded project openings (attendance agreed beforehand to ensure even coverage across the Committee).

We would be grateful if you could circulate to your networks.

Diolch
Jennifer
