Apologies for cross-posting but this may well be of interest to those happy few in the position to be planning new library developments:


CILIP West Midlands are hosting a morning event on Wednesday 7th November at Shard End Library (Birmingham) on designing a new library. The event includes a tour of Shard End Library and presentations from a number of different perspectives who play a part in designing a library. 


Programme

9.30 am - 10am: Tea/Coffee

10 am:  Welcome to the Library at The Shard

10.10am - 10.30am: A member of the Library of Birmingham Engagement team will speak on how LoB engaged with library users on the design and services for new LoB.

10.30am - 11am: Kevin Duffy (Senior Service Manager Community Libraries) Birmingham Libraries (20 mins). Speaks on the Commissioning process involved for a new Library build.

11am - 11.30am: Refreshments and tour of the Shard. Features a plasma screen show of photos taken of the old library prior to demolition of old library in Shard End.

11.30am – 12noon: John Hunt (John Hunt Associates) presentation on Designing the new Library (30mins).

Finish 12 noon.

By Bus: The number 55 (National Express and Claribells. Bus stop in Birmingham City Centre Priory Queensway opposite Argos and get off at the end of the Heath Way.

Parking: There is a large car park in front of the library with a 3 hour maximum stay.
