Hi Anna
You’re right, the shorthand link isn’t prompting for authentication (probably since the upgrade from 1.x to 2.x). Your solution is what’s needed.
Cheers
Dom

Subject: Re: [JISC-SHIBBOLETH] SP-side WAYFless urls
Hi Dom,
Thanks for your reply.
The url you’re suggesting for linking for individual titles is similar to one Safari gave me but it doesn’t function as a WAYFless url, at least not for us – off-campus it only gets me to the book in preview mode, I then have to click login via federation, go to the UK Federation WAYF, search for Westminster, then login (and actually the url doesn’t then resolve it just goes to proquest.safaribooksonline.com/[xmlId]). Does it work as a WAYFless url for you? I am trying to give links where students are immediately met with a UoW login screen then redirected back to the book they want as they are with e.g.
The WAYFless url I have managed to generate looks like the first one you give, albeit with a book-specific url as the target.
Thanks
Anna

Hello Anna,
We’re using something like this form of WAYFless linking to the top level of Safari:
But for individual titles we use the publisher’s recommended version of WAYFless link, eg:
[log in to unmask]&xmlId=9780596804909">http:[log in to unmask]&xmlId=9780596804909
Kind regards,
Dom Benson

Subject: [JISC-SHIBBOLETH] SP-side WAYFless urls
Does anyone have experience of successfully persuading a service provider to support SP-side WAYFless urls? We are having problems giving off-site access to Safari Books Online via our proxy server due to the increasing Flash content on the site and so were pleased that Safari has started offering authentication via Shibboleth. We’d like to maintain the ease of linking to individual books we get with using the proxy server but the only WAYFless urls I can generate through WUGEN are IDP-side with Shib 1 bindings. Safari are using the Bureau van Dijk SP and the UK Federation helpdesk have contacted them but they also suggested the same IDP-side url. This is not as much of a problem if I’m just creating a single link to a BvD service such as FAME but I don’t want to create brittle links to 12,000+ ebooks. The SP is Shibboleth 2 and the best practice guide at http://www.ukfederation.org.uk/library/uploads/Documents/WAYFlessGuidance.pdf would therefore suggest that there should be little work involved in setting up a session initiator – is that correct?
Thanks
Anna
