Still trying to get my head round the difference between the recording of the creators v. giving them access points, if any.

It seems an odd thing to do, especially

a) given that RDA does away with the Rule of Three (ie. allowing/encouraging you to transcribe everyone and make access points for all of them)

b) I was under the impression that one of RDA's strengths would be dealing with things like webpages where multiple people contribute (or is this a mixed responsibility issue?). In a digital world it is not so commonly the case that *an* item has *one* (or two) distinct author(s) - things are much more fluid now.

Yes am surprised by this too. For people's edification I append LC-PCC PS edict on this:

LC practice for Core element when there is more than one creator: After satisfying the RDA core requirement, catalogers may provide additional authorized access points according to cataloger's judgment.

So looks as if that really is the RDA Core element, or that's how I read it.

Record no. 10 was the first one I tackled, and I was really surprised by RDA 19.2's instruction "If there is more than one creator responsible for the work...[and]...if principal responsibility is not indicated, only the first-named creator is required".

Does this mean that if I choose, I'm *allowed* to not mention Sue Batley!?

cf.  AACR2's 21.6C1 which gives specific instructions to make an added-entry in such cases.

(disclaimer: it would obviously be a most unhelpful cataloguer who went down this route, but the RDA wording seemed to suggest it)

Yes, I was just writing an email to say the same thing.  I wouldn't think to add this in a MARC record, and like the way RDA allows for these kinds of links, though as we mentioned earlier today, I'm wondering about how far to go with this, and the time it would add to cataloguing a resource.
